Compass Housing Services NZ has established a strong platform on which to build future growth.
We have formed strong and productive relationships with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other key government agencies, and the private sector to increase the range and quality of affordable housing options in New Zealand.
As a member of Community Housing Aotearoa (CHA), we subscribe to their vision that it is a basic human right for ALL New Zealanders to have a warm, safe, dry and affordable home. CHA is the peak body for New Zealand’s community housing sector and we are one of 90 members providing affordable, appropriate housing for approximately 25,000 people nationally across 13,000 homes.
Our partnerships with the Ted Manson Foundation and Soho Developments will see the delivery of mixed tenure, mixed use developments in West Auckland, South Auckland and the Auckland CBD.
These properties will encourage all tenants to participate in the social and economic life of their communities, irrespective of whether they rent or own their house and will be located close to transport, retail and employment opportunities.
The $30 million, 92-unit mixed-use development at 38A Liverpool Street was built by CMP Construction for the philanthropic Ted Manson Foundation.
Ted Manson formed the Ted Manson Foundation in 2014 to enable a more coordinated and larger scale contribution to the community and charities sector.
Seventy-three of the apartments are reserved for social housing where eligible tenants only pay a maximum 25 per cent of their income in rent.
Private buyers have purchased some units but the Ministry of Social Development are leasing most of the tower residences and nominated Compass Housing Services NZ to look after the tenancy management.
With over 45 years experience in the construction sector, the foundation's aim is to use their expertise to provide long term housing to those New Zealanders who are struggling.
Currently in construction is the Ted Manson Foundation's innovative, mixed use and mixed tenure Westlight Development in Glen Eden, Auckland.
Westlight sets a new benchmark in community housing in New Zealand. It is within walking distance to shops, rail and bus transport and services including childcare, health and recreation.
The development, is due for completion in 2020, will have onsite management as well as a community centre and retail shops on the ground floor. It will include private housing and community housing rental properties.
Ninety-five of the 170 apartments will be subsidised community housing and will be managed by Compass Housing Services NZ.
The Ted Manson Foundation was setup with the aim of forming long-lasting partnerships with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Community Housing Providers and like minded agencies to house those people most in need.
Through the foundation Ted Manson aims to provide more than 300 apartments dedicated to community housing by 2022.
By 2021, Compass Housing Services NZ will be managing the tenancy of a further 110 , one and two-bedroom units as part of a vital partnership with Soho Group Limited and the Ministry of Urban Development.
The first 36 units will be available from mid 2020 with a major redevelopment on the former Whanganui Motor Inn site.
New developments in Palmerston North and Kelston West Auckland will see Soho Group Ltd deliver a further 42 and 36 one and two-bedroom social units in February 2021.
