Compass Housing Services NZ is delivering a new model of community housing properties and services in New Zealand. As a not for profit, regulated Community Housing Provider (CHP), we offer specialist tenancy and property management services in Auckland and the regional north island, from Wellington to Taranaki.
Our placed based approach to tenancy and property management services, focuses on improving the social and economic circumstances of our residents, as well as the communities in which they live; by delivering new and high-quality housing in mixed tenure communities.
Compass Housing Services offers a range of community development activities for residents designed to foster social inclusion and personal development. Our focus on empowerment and support is a major contributor to our high resident satisfaction levels over the past four years of our operation.
We partner with government and development partners to fund and deliver new models of secure, long term affordable, permanent housing.
We employ a People Place Performance approach to property and tenancy management.
People-focused programmes which enable social regeneration and increase tenant social and economic participation.
Place making initiatives which strengthen our residents’ sense of connection to their homes, neighbourhoods and communities.
Performance assessments are carried out monthly using our bespoke IT system, which ensures continuous assessment on what we are doing and whether it is making a difference for tenant and the places we manage.
Mixed Tenure Developments are a mix of subsidised housing and market housing.
The 18-storey Ted Manson Foundation Life Apartments in Liverpool Street Auckland are a shining example of how mixed tenure developments promote social inclusion and integrated communities.
Ted Manson personally funded the site purchase and construction, reserving 73 of the 93 units for social housing managed by Compass Housing Services NZ.
Mr Manson said "It's important to consider how communities are being shaped and developed to include housing to provide for people across the continuum. It needs to provide for people of all income levels."
Social housing is quite often built on city or suburban fringes. Transit Urban Developments are integrated within communities and strategically placed within close proximity of amenities, services and, importantly, public transport hubs.
The Ted Manson Foundation Westlight Apartments in Glen Eden, set a new benchmark in community housing in New Zealand.
Just two minutes’ walk from the Glen Eden Railway Station, Westlight is ideally located for city commuters.
In addition to 75 freehold apartments, the Westlight mixed-use development will include 90 purpose-built apartments to be separately managed by Compass Housing Services NZ.
Our fully-furnished studio apartments in South Auckland provide a safe haven, free electricity, water and WIFI to some of our most vulnerable community members.
Our South Auckland tenants range in age, gender and ethnicity with over thirteen countries represented across the two complexes at Mangere and Papatoetoe.
Tenants have formed close relationships with their neighbours and actively combine their collective skills and knowledge to achieve common goals. We are pleased that with a secure home, many are now engaged in employment, skills training and apprenticeship programs.
Housing is where we started, the heart of our work. We take pride in our tenancy and asset management services.
Access to adequate housing is a universal human right. But what we do is more than housing, its about people, the lives they live, the community they live in and providing a place they call ‘home’.
We aim to optimize the potential of the people who live in our properties. We support their dreams and aspirations, giving them opportunities to grow and become who they want to be.
Communities are created through a shared sense of belonging and connectedness. Connected communities care about and support the well-being of the people who live in them. Our endeavours assist in connecting communities.
We have an active role to play in influencing the future of housing and sustainable communities. We act to support our clients and influence others to achieve a better future. We look for sustainability, in business and in the environment. We measure our success in the impact we leave on the environment and how well we support our clients to determine their own future.
